Our 600-Hour Mirror Polishing Standard
What separates factory-grade work from museum-quality art is the polishing process. Each Shushin Art stainless steel sculpture undergoes a multi-stage polishing sequence: rough grinding (80 grit), progressive sanding through 120, 240, 400, 800, and 1200 grit belts, followed by a minimum of 600 hours of manual mirror buffing to achieve a flawless, “Cloud Gate”-level reflective finish.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why choose 316L over 304 stainless steel?
316L contains molybdenum, which provides significantly better resistance to salt spray and chemical corrosion. For any coastal, seaside, or high-humidity project, 316L is the industry standard used by Shushin Art on every outdoor sculpture.
How large can you fabricate a stainless steel sculpture?
We regularly fabricate sculptures up to 15-20 meters tall. For monumental pieces, we use modular construction — the sculpture is built in numbered sections at our factory, pre-assembled for quality testing, then shipped and reassembled on-site with crane installation.
What maintenance does a mirror-polished sculpture require?
316L stainless steel is virtually maintenance-free. For mirror-polished surfaces, we recommend occasional cleaning with mild soap and water. In coastal areas, a quarterly rinse to remove salt deposits will keep the finish pristine for decades.
